Langkat (Antaranews Sumut) - Tanjungpura police in the district of Langkat, North Sumatra, arrested a drug suspect found in possession of methamphetamine and an electric scale.
Police also confiscated a motorcycle used by the suspect identified as AP alias Ayang (34), Langkat police spokesman Adj. Com. Arnold Hasibuan said in Stabat, here, on Sunday.
Ayang was arrested on information received by police from a community member in Tanjungpura.
Upon receiving the information police moved to arrest AP in his hiding place at a plantation but the suspect escaped. Police, however, finally succeeded in stopping him in the Brandan highway.
Police found six sachets of methamphetamine and other evidence in his pockets.
Earlier in Gorontalo, northern Sulawesi, police arrested a civil servant identified as OL also in possession of methamphetamine in the city of Gorontalo.
Gorontalo police spokesman Sr. Com Totol Tri Wibowo said police received information about the suspicious activities of the suspect from a community member that OL received package containing methamphetamine from Palu, Central Sulawesi on Thursday.
"OL was nabbed when receiving the parcel from a rented car," Totol said.
OL is now in a police detention in Gorontalo for further investigation, he said on Friday.
Methamphetamine, smuggled into the country mainly from Malaysia and China, is one of the main types of drug found traded in black market in Indonesia.
Another type of drug widely found in illicit drug cases is marijuana, supplied locally mainly from Aceh, where the crop is grown in mountainous interior areas. (AS)
