Medan, N Sumatra, June 23 (Antara) - APEC senior officials will gather in the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan for two weeks as of Monday to discuss a wide range of programs to increase sustainable growth in the region.
The meeting is cooperation to implement steps capable of increasing sustainable growth in the Asia Pacific region, Executive Director of APEC Secretariat Dr Alan Bollard said in a press statement released on Sunday.
During the meeting which will end on July 16, a number of seminars and workshops will be held to find steps to increase investment, connectivity and free and open trade, he said.
"The Asia Pacific economy remains on the moderate growth track but in general it is stable. But further jobs are needed to overcome the imbalance," he said.
At the meeting, the organizing committee will provide participants from Asia Pacific countries with technical guidance to implement the required policies, he said.
The required steps include improving the management of natural resources and the environment in a commercial and social way, strengthening transparency and anti-corruption efforts, increasing the exchange of information and technology, and intensifying coordination between the public and private sectors, he said.
The participants will also get inputs on smart energy production and use, he said.
The point is important as a process to reduce 5 percent tariff from the APEC list and promote green building, he said.(SYS)
