Beijing, May 25 (Antara) - State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said Indonesia can become a developed country in ten years to come if its bureaucracy turns into more effective and efficient
in the upcoming five years.
"The national economic development is fairly good, ranging from six to six and half percent per year. No country in the world that can have a positive economic growth for ten consecutive years," Dahlan said in a seminar that raised the topic "Sustainable Development" in Peking University here on Saturday.
The number of Indonesian medium-sized communities also grow, Dahlan who spoke before a great number of Indonesian students in Peking University, Beijing, China on Saturday.
"Indonesian people who are no longer poor have reached 130 million, and it is positive based on macro economic calculation. However, if there is no effective and efficient bureaucracy, such positive economic growth will be meaningless," the minister explained.
Indonesia now has population of around 230 million people.
He said further that adequate infrastructures are badly needed as condition to become a developed and modern country.
However, long range of bureaucracy hampered the development effort. So how can Indonesia becomes a developed and modern country? he said.
The seminar was held by the Indonesian Students Association in (China).
Indonesian students in China originating from various circles ranging from children of ranking officials, entrepreneurs to children of Islamic figures, Dahlan added.(B003)
