Medan  (Antara) - The Indonesian Oil Palm Research Center (PPKS) of Medan recorded the largest sales of oil palm seeds in the country in the past three years.

"Despite a decline in comparison with in 2011 to 2013, the PPKS of Medan recorded the largest sales of oil palm seeds in 2015-2017," Director of the PPKS Hasril Hasan Siregar said here on Saturday.

In 2012 , sales by the PPKS of Medan totaled 40.26 million seeds , but in 2015 sales dropped to 26.92 million and to 20.02 million in 2016. In 2017 , sales rose to 22.42 million seeds.

Altogether sales of oil palm seeds in the country totaled 82.29 million seeds.

"PPKS will continue to increase its seed production and sales," Hasril said, adding sales tended to increase following government program of replanting the oil palm plantations of the farmers.

In 2018, the Director General of Plantations with support from the Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Body, plans to finance the replanting of 185,000 hectares of farmers` oil palm plantations that would need 30 million seeds.

Hasri said in 2018, sales of oil palm seeds are expected to rise to 23 million from 22.42 million seeds in 2017.

So far sales already 2.66 million seeds, with price the same at Rp6,750 each as in 2017. he added. (AS)
