A trauma center and medical team have been prepared to provide the necessary treatment during the implementation of the F1 Powerboat (F1H2O) World Championship at Lake Toba, North Sumatra province, on February 24–26, 2023.
Chief of the medical team of Lake Toba F1H2O Powerboat 2023, Steven Antonis, said here on Friday that the team is responsible for stabilizing the condition of patients needing medical evacuation.
"(Hence) the provided (medical) equipment (at the trauma center) can do all kinds of resuscitation, thus it is (provided for) lifesaving," he said at the trauma center at Mulia Raja Napitupulu Pier.
The evacuation of the sick or injured racers, crew, or officials will be handled directly by the trauma center team.
The team is prepared to take the patients to the trauma center room, which is being operated from February 20 to 27, 2023.
At least 60 medical personnel have been deployed at the center, including general practitioners and specialist doctors.
The equipment readied at the center includes patient beds, monitors, X-ray machine, pacemakers, ultrasound devices, and a number of other supporting facilities.
In addition, a modified bus has been provided as a surgery room with general surgeon, plastic surgeon, and neurosurgeon stand by.
“If the patient is stable after having the surgery and needs to be moved to the hospital, an ambulance will take the patient to the helicopter and they will be sent to H. Adam Malik Hospital in Medan city,” Antonis informed.
The Water and Air Police of the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) has prepared two AW169 helicopters and a number of personnel to support the powerboat racing event.
One helicopter will be on standby for medical evacuation. Meanwhile, another one will be deployed to supervise and monitor security at the event.
The championship is targeted to draw 25 thousand spectators in person.
In addition, it will attract global attention, with as many as 180 million viewers expected to follow it via various media platforms and broadcasts.
Lake Toba has been chosen to host the F1 Powerboat World Championship for five years, from 2023 to 2027.
