A 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted West Nias in North Sumatra province on Wednesday evening, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Office in Medan reported.

The epicenter of the quake was in the sea, 133 km southwest of Lahomi town, West Nias, at a depth of 10 km, the office said in a written statement.

The quake was a shallow one and caused by tectonic activity in the outer-rise zone, BMKG added.

No material damages or casualties were reported in the quake.
