"Upon our instruction the Indonesian ambassador in London has conveyed the Indonesian government's position to the British government and we will also convey it to the British embassy here," foreign minister Marty Natalegawa said in a written statement received here on Saturday.
He said the opening of the office was not in line with and ran against the friendly relationship that has gone so far between the two countries.
"It has even ran against the British government's own stance so far to support the territorial integrity of the Unitary State of Indonesia (NKRI) including Papua and West Papua as an integral part of the country," he said.
Marty said the act of opening the office was also against the international community that has so far firmly supported the NKRI.
"The development actually reflects more about the separatists' desperation to deal with the reality," he said.
Marty said the British government through its embassy in Jakarta has actually responded the development by issuing a statement which in essence confirms its opposition against Papua and West Papua provinces' independence.
"The British government states that the Oxford City Council's decision would not affect Britain 's foreign policy and views that it is exclusively the decision of the Oxford City Council," he said.
Marty however said that the Indonesian government needed to emphasize the importance of the British government to concretely and consistently show its policy against any act linked to Papua separatism in line with the two countries' friendly relations and the international community's view on NKRI.
It was reported earlier that a Free West Papua office had been opened in Oxford and the opening ceremony was attended by a number of officials, parliamentary members and Oxford Mayor Moh Niaz Abbasi.
The British government however said in response to it that the act was not linked with the British government's policy towards Indonesia.(ant)
