The North Sumatra Regional Police is preparing traffic engineering measures to support the implementation of the F1 Powerboat (F1H2O) World Championship at Lake Toba, North Sumatra province.

"We have carried out (a number of) security drills, especially for managing the traffic engineering,” chief of the North Sumatra Regional Police, Inspector General Panca Putra Simanjuntak, said, according to a statement received on Tuesday.

He assured that the traffic engineering will not disrupt the activities of the community.

The police also held the 2023 Hoval (meaning “big ship” in the local Batak language) Toba Operation troop assembly on February 17, 2023.

Police will implement the traffic engineering measures along the Trans-Sumatra Road -- precisely from Sutomo intersection to Jurangmonang intersection.

Traffic engineering will also be carried out at the Tambunan and Longat bypass intersections. In addition, a one-way traffic scheme will be applied on a number of roads.

Several parking areas will be provided for visitors along the roads, as they will be escorted to the drop-off location for the F1H2O venue by 85 shuttle buses deployed by the local government.

Apart from the F1H2O event, the police will also secure a number of side events, Simanjuntak said.

The side events will include micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) bazaars as well as the public viewing of the racing event, he informed.

"According to the data received by us to date, there will be around 19 side events in Balige sub-district (Toba district) and 5 side events in Parapat village (Simalungung district). We will keep updating this information,” he added.

F1H2O will be held from February 24–26, 2023, and is targeted to draw 25 thousand spectators.

State-owned tourism holding InJourney has provided a public viewing venue at Pahoda Hill, Toba district, North Sumatra province.

In addition, the company has curated 21 cafés and restaurants around Lake Toba for hosting the public viewing.
