The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said 16 hotspots of possible forest and plantation fires were detected in North Sumatra on Sunday.

"The 16 hotspots were detected based on MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) censor monitoring by Tera, Aqua, SNPP and NOAA20 satellites, the agency said here on Sunday.

Of the total hotspots, seven were detected in Humbang Hasundutan District, one in Karo, one in South Labuhanbatu, three in North Padang Lawas, one in Central Tapanuli , and three in North Tapanuli.

According to the weather forecast of BMKG, rains might likely fall over Langkat, Karo, Dairi, South Deli , Binjai, Simalungun, Nias Islands and surrounding areas on Sunday afternoon.
