Medan  (Antaranews Sumut) - The Religious Affairs Ministry will hold the "Indonesia Reading Qur`an" program themed "We`re Indonesian, We`re Cultured" at the State Islamic University (UIN) of North Sumatra.

Head of Public Relations of the Data and Information Bureau of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Mastuki noted that the event will be held on Wednesday evening, (May 11).

The theme was based on various considerations, including eagerness to ensure harmony and unity among cultures and religions in line with the religious context.

Director of Religious Higher Education of Islam (Diktis) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Arskal Salim noted that a group had recently denied the greatness of Indonesia`s cultural treasures under the guise of safeguarding religion.

"That group has tried to deviate from the Indonesian culture towards a foreign culture," he pointed out.

He noted that the Indonesia Reading Qur`an program at the UIN of North Sumatra will present three speakers: Head of the Development Agency of Ideology Pancasila Yudi Latif, caretaker of Al-Fakhriyah Islamic Boarding School of Tangerang Habib Jundan bin Nobel bin Salim, and UIN Rector of North Sumatra Prof. Saidurrahman.

In addition, a Medan singer Indah Nevertari, who won the audition of Rising Star Indonesia in 2014, will be present at the event.

"Moreover, Minister Lukman Hakim will host the talk show," he revealed.

UIN Rector of North Sumatra Prof. Saidurrahman stated that the program of Indonesia Reading Qur`an was intended to promote closeness and invite society in strengthening the spirit of Indonesia and Islam, so that both remain united as an Indonesian nation.

Head of Sub Directorate of Research and Dedication to the Diktis Society of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as the leading sector of the Indonesia Reading Qur`an program, Suwendi stated that the program will be organized in several Islamic religious colleges in the country on a regular basis.
