Gunungsitoli (Antaranews Sumut) - The city administration of Gunungsitoli, Nias, North Sumatra, is urged to establish a regional administration company (BUMD) to handle frequent shortage in cement supply in the city municipal city.
Chairman of the Association of North Nias Community (Himni) Yostinus Hulu said establishment of a company owned by the city administration could be a solution to scarcity in supply of building materials needed for infrastructure projects.
"BUMD is the best solution as a catalyst to create a health business competition in the market," Yostinus said here on Tuesday.
He said he had often suggested the establishment of BUMD with city officials including members of the city council, but none of them were interested.
"The city could gain much from the establishment of a BUMD. There would be new jobs, increase in the city income, and a fair and healthy business competition would be created," he said.
In addition, BUMD could help control inflation and would increase the assets of the city administration, he said.
He said scarcity in cement supply has hampered the development process in infrastructure projects in the district area of Nias especially in Gunungsitoli. (AS)
